Energy Bites to Keep Hangry at Bay!

Happy-it’s-almost-the-weekend!!!! YESSSS if you work in the desk job world you know Friday is a wonderful day of the week because we are usually in much better moods and look forward to the weekend ahead!

When one weekend passes, so does another, and another. Next thing you know, time has flown by! It’s already MARCH y’all. Last week of February was the beginning of Lent season, a few of us in the family are partaking in giving up carbs & sugar. YEAH. The cook and baker decided to forego two very important pieces of the food pyramid for a length of 40 days. BUT it’s totally doable and helpful with a support system in place!! That said, we’ve been very creative with our meals and snacks..!!

This almost feels like when I did Whole30 a couple years ago, except Whole30 is way, way more challenging. This is definitely achievable because I can eat cheese and peanut butter lol. However, one hard part is that I love to snack. Alllll day. That means, no cheez-its, no oreos, no wheat thins, no reeses cups, you get the gist. So, I have been snacking on more vegetables and dips which honestly feels way better for my stomach anyway, but sometimes you need to switch it up!

So I’ve made many energy bites in the past but so far this one has been a really good one. Energy/Snack ball/bites can be a great source of protein and energy and they can be as diverse in flavors and texture as you want because you can put whatever you want in it! Most of the ingredients I used can be interchangeable to your liking – choose your favorite nut butter (I like crunchy!), sweetener (I used date syrup!) and coating (or none at all!). Some energy bites out there can be bland because it’s one note and texture. For this recipe, I chop up roasted almonds to put into my mix, PLUS my crunch peanut butter for even more texture. You can omit the crunch out of it if that’s not your thing!

I have been eating these this week for a pre-lunch or afternoon snack and they’re just easy to eat and good too! I hope you get some inspo and make these for yourself, maybe for some Sunday meal prepping?! Alsoooo if you have any suggestions on more carb/sugar-free snacks plzzz send them my way 🙂

Much Love and Happy Weekend!

Healthy, Quick Energy Bites!

Try these for a change when you're grabbing a snack, it will keep you full with no sugar crashes. Perfect for on the go or desk snacking!

  • 1/2 cup nut butter (I used crunchy Santa Cruz, my favorite!)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (i.e. toasted almonds or walnuts are great)
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder (100% cacao, no sugar )
  • 2 tbsp sweetener (honey, maple syrup, I used date syrup)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  1. In a medium to large bowl, mix all the ingredients until well combined with a wooden spoon or spatula

  2. Using your hands, mold the "dough" into 8 bite sized pieces

  3. That's it! Store in an air-tight container, or tightly wrap them and place in a ziploc up to a week (tightly wrapping them ensures it does not dry out!)

This recipe can be altered in many ways as it is very versatile!

Nut butters can be interchangeable with other types – almond, sunflower, cashew. The flavor may change a little bit!

Sweetners can also be swapped if you wanted to opt in for honey instead you can do that as well.
